Bienvenue!
Club Anglophone, Montpellier
What We’re About
The BCA—Bienvenue! Club Anglophone—is Montpellier’s social and cultural association for English speakers of all nationalities. Founded on friendship, curiosity, and shared experience, we bring together a lively community of people who enjoy engaging in English, exploring local culture, and celebrating diversity.
With an annual membership of over 270 people from across the globe, the BCA offers a full calendar of activities—recurring groups, special events, and cultural outings—all organized by volunteers. Whether you’re looking to connect through conversation, arts and entertainment, or outings and exploration, there’s always something going on and someone ready to welcome you.
Our goal is simple: to create a place where everyone can belong—a friendly, cooperative community where English serves as a bridge rather than a boundary.
Our History
The association began life as the British Cultural Association, founded in September 1991 to offer English-language activities and outings for British families and teachers in the Montpellier area.
As the community grew, so did its diversity. What began as a group of British expatriates has evolved into an international, English-speaking association with members from many countries—including a growing number of French residents eager to keep their English active through social exchange.
In recognition of this evolution, members voted to refresh our identity while preserving our initials—BCA—which now stands for:
B – Bienvenue! (A true French welcome)
C – Club
A – Anglophone
Same acronym, new identity: a community open to all who wish to connect, share, and belong.
BCA Structure
The BCA is a non-profit association and is regulated under French law, specifically the Association Loi 1901. This law dictates that associations must be structured by a stated goal (the reason the association exists) and projects that attract members. The law also states that associations must be run democratically to ensure that all members of an association are empowered and can influence the operations of an association.
BCA Board of Directors and Executive Committee
BCA members elect a 10-person Board of Directors each year. The Board is responsible for the general running and operating of the association. The two major obligations of the Board is to organise a General Meeting at least once a year and to approve finances. Board members meet several times a year and can make decisions on just about anything unless otherwise explicitly stated in the association's statutes. Board members also elect the Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee are Board members who have been elected to undertake certain important roles. The BCA currently has five executive roles:
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Activity Director
Secretary
The number of executive roles can vary depending on the needs of the association, though a Board must seek the approval of the general membership to add or remove such roles.
BCA Statutes
Every association must have a set of by-laws which define the democratic procedures ruling the association, its purpose and the power and obligations of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. These by-laws or statutes are drawn-up by the association's founding members but can be changed at any time with the approval of the association's members and the local préfecture.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
